Final outcome

After much thought and panic :s this is what my final exhibition piece looks like. I feel it fits in with my research well. The box at the front is covered in a lab coat and on top is a cusion i made to look like part of a padded cell with buttons pulling in the centre and a belt like a strap from a straight jacket.

Exhibition

We are havehad to think about how we want our work to look for the exhibition. So have chosen pictures which i think not only show what my work is about but work together as well. I wanted a nice balance between black and white images and the green toned ones. Also i wanted some blurred and some of the ones that look like film stills. I felt it would work best having a variety of sizes also. Here is a rough draft of what i would like my wall to look like.

I thought it would look good if it resembled my research pages with the graph paper background and way the photos are set out. I also want to incorporate some of my best related research pages into the wall so viewers can see the path of development.

Final Film

My final short film which includes clips from both Weston-super-mare and Wales. I tried to show aspects of both the water, wind and sand (eroded rock and shells) I wanted to show a gentle side to nature and also the wild side. I used music from both Chopin and Beethoven. The change of music matches well to the atmosphere of the film. Although short i believe it is both moving and powerful. I feel the lighting worked well and the old effect i was after looks genuine. Unfortunately i cant seem to upload the final film at the moment but will try again soon.

Beach photos

As well as doing the filming at Aberystwyth i took some photosalong the way. I found they worked best in antique colours and a slight darkening around the edges. Model: Marieanne Helliwell

Web Portfolio

http://louiserainbow.carbonmade.com/ This is my online portfolio! x

Mental shoot

With this shoot i did some images with the blurry effect found in my research for an unsettling feel. Some look like film stills from old horror movies and i have tested a couple distorting like those of the funhouse mirrors also in my research.

nude shoot

Ive been editing my photos, with influence from the victorian nudes and the more modern photographers. I tested different finishes, but in the end the sepia turned out the most effective. Here are some of the final images. I changed the jewellery throughout the shoot and used the chair for the first few poses. I did some full body shots and some close ups like in my research. Where you cant really tell what part ofthe body you are looking at. They make you consider the image more fully.

Poses

I have tested out a few poses for my next shoot. I made a spiral template which i put infron of the model so the poses fitted and were "attractive". I took inspiration from some of the nude images i have been researching and thought of some of my own.

Props

Aswell as jewellery i have been thinking about what other props i need for my nude shoot. I noticed that the models of the past were often kying down or on a chair. Here are some examples of the types of chairs.

Music

I have been sorting out my music for my film. For this i have chosen 3 classical tunes, that i know contain the fibonacci sequence. These are Mozart's Sonata 1, Chopin's Fantasy Impromtu and Beethoven's Choral Fantasy.I also found some music called the Fibonacci Sequence.
For a different more edgy feel, that will create a sense of eeriness for my film, i have played each piece backwards. I may use just one piece of music or have parts from each. The most complicated and time-consuming part is making it fit to the film.
Unfortunatly i could not upload these so you will have to wait to see the final piece :)

Jewellery

I noticed that in the victorian nudes i have in my research, th emodels are still wearing jewellery or even some pieces of clothes. I thought it would be nice to have my model wearing various jewellery etc. Still looking her best even at her most vulnerable. I have spent some time searching around for victorian style jewellery and vintage pieces on ebay. I would also like an old chair for some of the shots.

The dress

To make my dress for the beach shoot i took inspiration from images in my research. Looking at floaty materials etc.
I Went for a fabric that would be transparent in places when blown or in the wind. I found a lovely peach coloured chiffon-type material which matched the underskirt. (underskirt was for model's modesty)

The Red Balloon

Someone told me to watch this film and i thought it related well to my beach shoot as the balloon appears to be floating all by itself :) It reminds me of the clip out of American beauty and i thought i could get a similar effect with a kite on the beach.

More experimenting

I have had a little go with the camera over the holiday, testing which techniques create the best effect and look how i want. I had a go at blurring the image by changing the zoom as i took the photo, obviously the shutter speed was very low to be able to capture the movement. These were what it came up with. Not brilliant but a good start...

preparation

I have been making my scrubs look a bit more believable. First i soaked them in water then added coffee to make them look dirty, scrunching in bits of granules to get darker patches. They now look like the patient has been scorched but electricution. I then rolled around in some dirt and got some charcoal onto them to make them look even more grubby :) (that was fun) Lastly i used red food colouring for a bloodied effect.
As you can see i got in a bit of a mess hehe!
